Tiskita Jungle Lodge

Tiskita Lodge

Set high on a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean and backed by primary rain forest, Tiskita Jungle Lodge is a remote tropical retreat perfect for adventure travelers, wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers of all stripes.

Located south of Costa Rica's fabulous Osa Peninsula-if you went any further south you'd be in Panama-in an area of rich rainfall and dense primary forest, Tiskita offers guests "luxury", personal attention and a world of wonder just outside your cabin door.

Tiskita Lodge is a collection of 16 individual cabins and private rooms set amid rich forests and fruiting trees. In total, Tiskita comprises a 550 acre private biological reserve, of primary, secondary and reforested areas, as well as 37 acres of tropical fruit orchards and farm, featuring over 100 exotic fruits.

Each room has a comfortable queen-sized bed or two twins, a ceiling fan, bedside tables, armoires and a private bathroom.

Most of these bathrooms are actually outdoors (although with plenty of protection and privacy), allowing you the unique and delightful experience of enjoying the spectacular sights and proximity of our jungle while you

shower, shave and brush your teeth.
All of the rooms feature broad verandahs with sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Osa Peninsula. These verandahs are thoughtfully equipped with both comfortable sitting chairs and even more comfortable string hammocks.

The newest addition to Tiskita Jungle Lodge is a refreshing pool set on a high hillside.

Take a cool dip, while you watch the waves crash below and the birds and monkeys frolic around you.

While you're at Tiskita a daily range of activities and guided hikes are available free of charge.

Meals are served in our large main dining room, which is open to the fresh ocean breezes and just steps away from our fabulous views.

Our cooks prepare a variety of hearty Costa Rican dishes, with an emphasis on our fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables, as well as locally raised beef and poultry, and, of course, fish fresh from the nearby Pacific Ocean.

We also have a comfortable bar area open from noon to 10:00pm everyday. This is a wonderful spot to gather with other guests, to discuss and compare sights and thrills from the day's activities. Fresh natural fruit juices, hot coffee and tea are available all day long. For those times when you're not on a trail, in the ocean or soaking in our pool or relaxing in your hammock, we have a wide selection of natural history books, popular novels, board games and-we're especially proud of this-a new homemade ping-pong table.

Activities at Tiskita Jungle Lodge
Tiskita is a great place to just kick back and relax, exploring the local flora and fauna at your leisure.

Spend the morning walking a beach and swimming in tide pools and then take an afternoon hike in the jungle.

Tiskita Tide Pools - Rocks exposed along the beach edge, during low tide, at first appear to be lifeless compared to the colorful tidepools of more temperate coasts. However, a closer look will reveal a variety if interesting life forms. Organisms must be well adapted to live here as their environment changes radically with the tides. Some organisms are fully exposed while others remain in isolated pools.

High tide again bathes the rocks in cool water but now the powerful surf must be contended with... some animals are easily visible while others require some searching remember to replace any rocks you turn over!
Crustaceans are represented by several species of crab, lobsters and barnacles. Crabs of several species and variety of sizes may be seen tucked into the safety of a crevice or darting busily over the rocks.

Tiskita Jungle Lodge is a remote tropical retreat with no televisions, no telephones, and no fax. Adventure travel in Costa Rica is different than most other forms of tourism and a little foresight and planning will make your trip much more enjoyable.

We do maintain constant radio contact with our San José offices in case of emergency.

ACTIVITIES

HOW TO GET THERE

By Plane - The most common & popular way to get to Tiskita is by small chartered plane to our private airstrip. The flight is a 55 minute jaunt that leaves from San José's Pavas International Airport following the Pacific coast south from Manuel Antonio to Dominical to the Osa Peninsula, where it crosses over the peninsula and follows the Golfo Dulce down south to Tiskita Lodge. Round-trip transportation is included in most packages to Tiskita.

By Car - The most popular route heads out of San José along the Inter American Highway to the town of Cartago, where you head into the hills and cloud forests of the Cerro de la Muerte (Mountain Pass of Death), coming out of the Cerro de la Muerte you'll pass through the cities of San Isidro and Palmar Norte on your way to Golfito. Once in Golfito (actually just before you reach Golfito proper) you'll turn off onto the dirt roads that head towards Pavones and Playa Zancudo. After 10 kilometers you'll have to take a small car ferry crossing over the Coto River. Continue on, following the signs to Pavones. Once you reach the small village and surfing mecca of Pavones it's another 6 kilometers to Tiskita.

By Bus - There is regular bus service from San José to Golfito. From Golfito, there is a daily bus to Pavones.

Tiskita Jungle Lodge is closed from September 1st to October 31 every year.
