Hotel Trogon Lodge

| Trogon Lodge is located in San Gerardo de Dota, near Cerro de la Muerte, Costa Rica's highest peak. The drive takes approximately 02 hours from San José heading southeast in the Pan-American highway. | Trogón Lodge is a farm of 105 acres, located at an altitude of 700 ft (2200 mts) above sea level. This is the perfect hideaway for nature lovers, birdwatchers and those wanting to get away from it all.

The clean waters of the Savegre River run through the property with its waters on an endless travel through the rocks.
One can feel right in heaven going to sleep with the nearby sounds of the river waters.

For our guests comfort, all feature a heating unit specially necessary on the area's chilly nights.

"El Quetzal" Restaurant serves all three family-style meals.
Special menus for diabetics, vegetarians or any dietary restriction may be arranged, when informed in advance.
A favorite is the fresh trout specially prepared by our chef, caught from the trout pond at the lodge.
Menus for groups and incentives, served buffet style, can also be arranged. |

During a stay at Trogón Lodge, visitors can also enjoy the look out point for great forest views as well as one (or all!) of our three different nature trails, where they will immerse into the cloud forest to enjoy the flora of the area, including ferns, several species of orchids, centennial oak trees, bromeliads and the opportunity of getting close to nature in this virgin area.
On the several trout ponds at the Lodge, we have trouts in different stages of growth. Once they reach a nature size, are moved to the pond in front of the Restaurant, where, as we say "If you catch it, you can eat it". Try your luck, and if you do, our chef will be more than glad to prepare it. |
Tours Trogon lodge
| Due to its location, visitors to Trogón Lodge can either arrive on their own (either by rental car or a company transfer) or may choose to take one of tour packages, that include the services of transportation.
If arriving on own, guests can always join us in one of our daily tours (optional & extra), lead by our in-house guide. Tour options include:
Early morning bird watching tour:
From 6:00 to 8:00 am, the resident guide will take you on a walk in search for birds, specially Resplendent Quetzals. This is the best way to wake up to nature! During the walk, you might become one of those lucky people to spot this beautiful bird.
Nature trails tour:
Select from one of our 3 different nature trails. They all vary in length and difficulty. Trail #1 and #2 head east, being #1 the longest. Trail #2 heads west and finishes in the San Gerardo de Dota road.
Waterfall Tour:
This is a half day tour. The entrance is located at 2 km from the Lodge and from here, the fun begins!. Walking through the Forest, you will reach the impressive waterfall.
Horseback riding tour:
A minimum of 02 hours is required. Ride along the beautiful Valley of San Gerardo de Dota and discover the area.
You can also enjoy self-guided tours, relax in the rocking chairs around the property watching the spectacular view and close to the Restaurant you will see how many species of Hummingbirds come to greet you.
